Rationale and Aim for the Kin Hong Seafood Festival
The goal of the Kin Hong Seafood Festival in November, 2015, is to build public knowledge of sustainable seafood, why we should care about what we are eating, and where that comes from. We aim to involve seafood retailers, consumers, restaurateurs and suppliers in creative events that will provide education about seafood sustainability. This event will provide an opportunity for the public to experience sustainable products first hand, which will be provided via restaurants or catering companies. In working with the F&B industry, the aim is to facilitate restaurateurs in gaining access to sustainable seafood and to increase availability and visibility in the market place. Kin Hong Sustainable Seafood Festival – (November - 2015)
The Kin Hong Seafood Festival is being held for the month of November in Hong Kong. Kin Hong means healthy in Chinese, and symbolizes the need for having healthy seafood, from a healthy process of fishing or cultivation. The Festival will be organised by Ocean Recovery Alliance, a Hong Kong non-profit organization, in collaboration with the Marine Stewardship Council (www.msc.org) and the Aquaculture Stewardship Council (ASC) (http://www.asc-aqua.org/), both of which are the primary organisations responsible for setting standards and certifying sustainable seafood globally. The event is funded by ADM Capital Foundation, which supports programs that help support the improvement of the ocean environment and communities that survive from the resources that the ocean provides. For the Kin Hong Seafood Festival in November, *participating organisations will be allowed to use the MSC and ASC Ecolabels at their premises to raise awareness with their customers.
The Kin Hong Seafood Festival will involve at least 30 restaurants, specifically in Hong Kong’s key dining locations to gain maximum exposure. The restaurants would commit to providing at least one certified sustainable seafood dish on their menus for the duration of the month, and would be able to use the MSC and ASC logos as appropriate. Guidance/connections will be provided regarding sustainable seafood suppliers.

About the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC)

The Aquaculture stewardship council is an international non-profit organization that works to manage the global standards for responsible aquaculture. It is the world’s leading certification program for responsibly farmed seafood and recognizes and rewards responsible aquaculture with its ecolabel. The ASC works closely with seafood producers, seafood processors, retail and foodservice companies, scientists, conservation groups and consumers to transform the seafood markets towards sustainability.
「健康海鮮節」主辦機構為海洋復原聯盟 (Ocean Recovery Alliance)，由海洋管理委員會 (Marine Stewardship Council, MSC)及水產養殖管理委員會 (Aquaculture Stewardship Council, ASC) 作為合作伙伴。MSC 及 ASC 是國際上能頒發可持續海鮮認證的兩所機構。「健康海鮮節」項目由ADM Capital 基金會贊助。該基金會長期致力於改善海洋環境及幫助依賴海鮮維生的社區。
「健康海鮮節」將會有至少超過30間餐廳食肆參加。餐廳將會於「健康海鮮節」期間，供提至少一道以已取得認證的可持續海鮮作為食材的佳餚。作為鼓勵，參加的餐廳將能使用MSC 或/及ASC 的認證標籤於餐單及相關資料上，提高大眾對MSC 及ASC 可持續海鮮認證的認識。主辦機構將會提供有關可持續海鮮供應商的基本資料作參考之用。
海洋復原聯盟集結新思維、科技、創意及合作，開創多個新穎計劃和議題，以改善我們的海洋生態環境。聯盟在克林頓全球合作計劃 (Clinton Global Initiative) 下展開的兩項計劃，專注於減少塑料污染，也是唯一同時與聯合國環境規劃署 (UNEP) 及世界銀行的「全球海洋夥伴」合作的非政府組織之一。聯盟亦爲香港兒童海洋日及香港三藩市海洋電影節的舉辦方。
水產養殖管理委員會 (ASC) 於2010年由世界自然基金會 (WWF) 和荷蘭可持續貿易倡議 (IDH) 創建，是一個具有國際影響力的獨立性非盈利組織。ASC的目標是創建世界領先的可持續養殖水產品認證和水產品認證標籤。ASC的主要作用是管理可持續水產養殖的全球標準。
