Rationale and Aim for the Kin Hong Seafood Festival

The 2nd Kin Hong Seafood Festival is coming to Hong Kong in September, 2017, with the objective to build public knowledge of sustainable seafood, why we should care about what we are eating, and where that comes from.   We expect to have over 100 participating restaurants this year.  One of the restaurant groups from the previous event, Cali Mex, committed to use sustainable seafood permanently as a result of leaning how easy it was to shift their sourcing.  Hong Kong University's staff canteen is also continuing for the long run.  We involve seafood retailers, consumers, restaurateurs and suppliers in creative events that provided education about seafood sustainability. This event provides an opportunity for the public to experience sustainable products first hand, which will be provided via restaurants or catering companies.  In working with the F&B industry, we helped to facilitate restaurateurs in gaining access to sustainable seafood and to increase availability and visibility in the market place.  Do you know where your seafood comes from?  Follow us on Facebook too. 



Kin Hong Sustainable Seafood Festival – (September - 2017)

The 2nd Kin Hong Seafood Festival will be held in September, 2017 in Hong Kong.  Kin Hong means healthy in Chinese, and symbolizes the need for having healthy seafood, from a healthy process of fishing or cultivation.   The Festival is organised by Ocean Recovery Alliance, a Hong Kong non-profit organization, in collaboration with the Marine Stewardship Council (www.msc.org) and the Aquaculture Stewardship Council (ASC) (http://www.asc-aqua.org/), both of which are the primary organisations responsible for setting standards and certifying sustainable seafood globally.  The event is funded by ADM Capital Foundation, which supports programs that help support the improvement of the ocean environment and communities that survive from the resources that the ocean provides. For the Kin Hong Seafood Festival, participating organisations are allowed to use the MSC and ASC Ecolabels at their premises to raise awareness with their customers if they are serving this type of certified seafood.  They can also serve seafood that is on the  WWF "Ocean Friendly Menu" list.

The Kin Hong Seafood Festival expects to involve over 100 restaurants in Hong Kong’s key dining locations to gain maximum exposure. The restaurants commit to provide at least one certified sustainable seafood dish on their menus for the duration of the month, and are able to use the MSC and ASC logos as appropriate. Guidance and connections to sustainable seafood suppliers is provided as part of the program as well.

About the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC)

The Marine stewardship council is an international non-profit organization that works to promote sustainable fishing practices.  目標

「健康海鮮節」旨在讓大眾了解何謂可持續海鮮,推廣可持續海鮮對海洋保育的重要性,並追尋牠們的來源。「健康海鮮節」會聯同海鮮供應商、零售商、餐廳及顧客,透過活動,向大眾推廣可持續海鮮的意義。「健康海鮮節」期間,市民大眾可在合作餐廳享用以可持續海鮮為食材的佳餚。同時,我們希望透過合作,讓飲食行業對可持續海鮮得到更多了解,並使其於市場上更具吸引力。

 主辦機構

 「健康海鮮節」的主辦機構為海洋復原聯盟 (Ocean Recovery Alliance),並由國際可持續海鮮認證頒發機構海洋管理委員會 (Marine Stewardship Council, MSC;www.msc.org)及水產養殖管理委員會 (Aquaculture Stewardship Council, ASC;http://www.asc-aqua.org/) 作為合作伙伴。「健康海鮮節」得到ADM Capital 贊助。該基金會長期致力改善海洋環境及幫助依賴海鮮維生的社群。

簡介

 「健康海鮮節」將於2017年9月於香港舉辦。「健康」除了指健康的海鮮食材外,同時亦代表以健康而環保的方式捕獲及養殖的水產,象徵著海洋的健康。超過100間餐廳食肆將會參與「健康海鮮節」,期間提供至少一道以已取得認證的可持續海鮮作為食材的佳餚。參加的餐廳將能使用MSC及ASC 的認證標籤於餐單及相關資料上[1],有助提高大眾對MSC 及ASC 可持續海鮮認證的認識。響應世界自然基金會環保海鮮菜單計劃餐廳亦能參加「健康海鮮節」。主辦機構將會為參與食肆提供有關可持續海鮮供應商的基本資料作參考之用。

海洋復原聯盟簡介

 海洋復原聯盟集結新思維、科技、創意及合作,開創多個新穎計劃和議題,以改善我們的海洋生態環境。聯盟在克林頓全球合作計劃 (Clinton Global Initiative) 下展開的兩項計劃,專注於減少塑料污染,也是唯一同時與聯合國環境規劃署 (UNEP) 及世界銀行的「全球海洋夥伴」合作的非政府組織之一。聯盟亦爲香港兒童海洋日及香港三藩市海洋電影節的舉辦方。 

海洋管理委員會簡介

海洋管理委員會是一個獨立的全球性非牟利組織。委員會的使命通過漁場認證項目和海洋產品生態標籤,並倡導及鼓勵可持續漁業,鼓勵消費者選擇可持續海產。委員會亦透過與合作伙伴共同努力促進海產市場向可持續模式發展,為世界海洋的健康作出貢獻。 

水產養殖管理委員會簡介

水產養殖管理委員會 (ASC) 於2010年由世界自然基金會 (WWF) 和荷蘭可持續貿易倡議 (IDH) 創建,是一個具有國際影響力的獨立性非盈利組織。ASC的目標是創建世界領先的可持續養殖水產品認證和水產品認證標籤。ASC的主要作用是管理可持續水產養殖的全球標準。
