Plastic Catch: Utilising Fishing Communities and Rewards To Remove Ocean Waste- Date: November 6, 2015. Hong Kong
Plastic Catch is a new program created by Ocean Recovery Alliance and Waste2Wear, which incentivises local fishermen to catch plastic in the ocean, while also at sea doing their fishing. When they return to shore, they can sell their catch, but also turn in the waste recovered from the ocean for payment. This helps engage, educate and create appreciation for the ocean, while augmenting their income stream by bringing in trash that they would normally throw back to the ocean once pulled from their nets.
