The director of the Ocean Recovery Alliance has issued an open letter to stakeholders on the eve of negotiations, urging them to “balance bold ambition with pragmatism.”

On the eve of the United Nations–led INC-5.2 negotiations in Geneva on a global plastics treaty, Douglas Woodring, Director of the Ocean Recovery Alliance, has issued a communique urging stakeholders in attendance to “balance bold ambition with pragmatism.”
Since its founding more than 15 years ago, the Ocean Recovery Alliance has worked diligently across borders to address the issue of plastic waste in Asia and beyond without unduly demonizing the plastics industry. As the meeting gets underway in Geneva, Woodring recognizes that “while a perfect treaty may not yet be achievable with such a variety of stakeholders, even partial agreements represent progress.”
