On June 21st, 2012, Ocean Recovery Alliance hosted a side event Plasticity Rio (www.plasticityforum.com), at the RIO+20 Earth Summit. Plasticity Rio focused on the Future of Plastic, and will showcased where the leaders are going in their respective industries who are deploying new technologies, innovations and solutions related to plastic use. The final benefactor of improved systems, production and recovery is the ocean, and all of our communities in terms of reduced waste issues. A concurrent design competition, called “Capturing Gold” also took place, bringing the world together to think of ways to remove large volumes of PET bottles from the waste stream, and how to best use the “gold” when it is recovered. Over 100 ideas were generated, with winners from the Philippines and Uganda.
At the Rio event, it was announced that the next Plasticity event will be held in Hong Kong, in May or June of 2013. We welcome you to join this exciting discussion on innovation, change and opportunities that exist in a world where plastic is used, but no footprint is created.
